The National Gallery Of Art
The National Gallery or Art is a museum located in the national mall of Washington, DC. There are two buildings that make up this museum. The West building, that displays European and American Art pieces, and the East building, which displays modern and contemporary art. There is also a sculpture garden located outdoors. This museum is very large and is the home to many different types of art pieces ranging from sculptures, to paintings, to photographs.
The Veiled Nun

This sculpture is titled The Veiled Nun. It is a copy of the piece sculpted in 1863 by the Milanese artist, Giuseppe Croff, (though the actual sculpture attributed to him has not be found). Though the title of this piece gives us the impression that she is a nun, she is in fact not. It it simply a sculpture of a female figure wearing a veil. Sculptures presenting veiled beings were quite popular in the 19th century due to an Italian tradition that began in the 18th century.
This piece is made out of marble and is 20.75 inch by 11 inches in size
The Veiled nun was first purchased in 1863 for 300$ by William Wilson Corcoran, and has been displayed in many other gallery’s. It now resides in Washington, DC at The National Gallery of Art.
Woman with a Parasol – Madame Monet and Her Son

This painting is titled “Woman with a Parasol – Madame Monet and Her Son”, also known as “The Stroll”, and it was painted by the infamous Claude Monet. This piece depicts Monet wife Camille and their son Jean standing in a field lit by the natural lighting of the day.
This is an impressionist painting and it was made in 1875. It was one of his many works displayed in his second impressionist exhibition that took place in April 1876.
It size is 39inches by 32 inches and resides in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
